USCAR-2 compliant FPC/FFC-to-board connector offering extended

Hirose has expanded its USCAR-2-compliant FPC/FFC-to-board connector offering with a 1mm pitch version that simplifies the assembly process while decreasing the size, weight, and cost of the system.

Conventional harness processes, such as soldering and crimping, are complex and time-consuming. Each pin needs its own contact and wire preparation, and the insertion of contacts must be done pin by pin. The wire count directly contributes to an increase in overall weight, and extra space is required for wire routing and bending radius. The two-piece TB4 Series features an easy harness process that speeds up assembly and the manufacturing process. Simply insert the FPC/FFC into the plug housing and then attach the retainer. The plug side needs no extra contacts.

A two-point contact design provides high contact reliability and protects against dust intrusion. The design also ensures user safety with electric shock prevention and mis-insertion protection. The series supports two key code types (black and gray) for secure and error-free connections.

Designed to withstand severe vibration and high temperatures up to 125C, the series FPC/FFC connector is typically found in automotive battery systems, construction equipment and agriculture machinery.

“The TB4 Series is a compact, high-performance FPC/FFC-to-Board connector designed for durability, reliability, and secure connections in demanding environments,” said Pete Lais, assistant vice president of Product Management for Hirose Electric Americas. “The slim two-piece design enables a direct FPC/FFC connection that reduces size and weight of the system, a requirement for automotive HMI and infotainment applications.”

The low-profile TB4 Series has a mating height of 4.5mm, and a width of 12.5mm. The single-row connector is available in a 30-position version.
