Shielded board-to-board connectors deliver high-speed connectivity with EMI protection

Kyocera AVX has developed the 0.4mm pitch board-to-board connector, the 5908 Series, the first in its lineup to feature a fully shielded structure. Sales of this product, which improves EMI characteristics by suppressing electromagnetic interference and supports high-speed transmission, are available now.

In recent years, as communication and information processing technologies have advanced, devices such as smartphones and smartwatches have required increasingly sophisticated connectors. Enhancing EMI characteristics during high-speed transmission has become a significant challenge for these applications.

To address this, the company has introduced a fully shielded structure in the 0.4mm pitch board-to-board connector series, which provides excellent EMI characteristics by effectively suppressing noise intrusion and leakage.

The fully shielded structure provides excellent EMI characteristics, supporting high-speed transmission. A fully shielded structure has been adopted, in which the outer circumference of the plug side and the receptacle side is covered with a conductive metal. Since the fully shielded structure covers the main body and mating area of the connector with a metal shell, it can maximally suppress the intrusion and leakage of noise, thereby enhancing EMI characteristics. When mated, this product forms a double-shielded structure, allowing the electrical signal circuits to pass through the shield, which suppresses noise generation.

The series supports high-speed transmission standards, including PCI Express Gen.3 (8Gbps) and USB 3.2 Gen.2 (10Gbps), etc. The unique locking mechanism increases robustness and enhances retention force by 30%. Both components also feature an R-shaped design to facilitate assembly and to improve workability.

The plug features a convex shape and the receptacle a concave shape, creating a locking structure that ensures secure mating and increases retention force by 30% compared to our previous products. Both components also feature an R-shaped design to facilitate assembly and improve workability.
