High-performance cable systems provide improved signal integrity

Mouser now ships the Flyover QSFP (FQSFP) cable systems from Samtec. These high-performance cable systems supply improved signal integrity and architectural flexibility by flying critical data signals via low-loss, ultra-low skew twinax cable instead of through lossy PCBs, excellent for high-speed networking, digital video, and communications.

The FQSFP cable systems are developed for signal integrity-critical, 28Gbps to 56Gbps+ applications and are compatible with all MSA QSFP pluggable transceivers. The design, coupled with Eye Speed twinax cable, offers improved signal integrity and increased signal path length at higher data rates, with up to 400Gbps aggregate (112Gbps PAM4).

The cable systems simplify board layout and lower thermal challenges, while direct attach contacts inside the connector body eradicate the transition board for optimised signal integrity. The design includes localised press-fit control and power contacts, reducing airflow impediments and removing the necessity for a secondary cable and connector. Dual-port architecture is supported for maximum density.

For design flexibility, various End 2 options are available for the cable systems. These options include Mini Edge Card Connectors with vertical or horizontal orientation, Edge Card Sockets, FireFly Micro Flyover connectors, and High-Speed Press-Fit connectors. Further accessories provided include connector cages, heat sinks, and light pipes.

The cable systems support many protocols, including Ethernet, USB 3.0, PCIe 3.0 and 4.0, IB FDR, IB EDR, optical, SAS, SATA, and more, excellent for applications such as data centres, digital video, high-speed networking, and communications.
