Non-magnetic connectors developed for specialised applications

25-01-2023 | Amphenol | Industrial

Amphenol RF has expanded its microminiature SMP product series to incorporate non-magnetic connector and adapter options. These configurations are fabricated with non-ferrous materials and plating to deliver high-performing RF interconnects with low magnetic field susceptibility and no electric field distortion. All non-magnetic SMP connectors and adapters supply the same reliable connections for board-to-board and board-to-cable as standard SMP products. Non-magnetic SMP options are excellent for sensitive medical, aerospace and quantum computing applications.

These 50-Ohm non-magnetic products are obtainable in varied mating configurations and detent types – smooth bore, limited and full detent – with outstanding electrical performance up to 40GHz. The SMP interface provides a snap-on locking mechanism for straightforward mating and radial and axial float which supplies board-to-board misalignment correction. PCB spacing options are based on the bullet adapter length. Non-magnetic SMP connectors are also provided in assorted cable plug designs for flexible cable types.

Non-Magnetic SMP connectors are built with gold-plated, beryllium copper bodies and contacts, and PTFE insulators. They are ideal for applications such as MRI equipment where non-magnetic coaxial connectors are crucial for carrying RF signals within the magnetic field where a high SNR is required. These connectors and adapters are built specifically to function in this environment without being electrically compromised, allowing the equipment to function safely and effectively.
