Maxim MAX25024 Four-Channel LED Drivers are a four-channel backlight driver IC with a boost controller for automotive displays. The integrated current outputs are able to sink up to 150mA LED current each. The device takes an extensive 2.5V to 36V input voltage range and can withstand automotive load-dump events. The internal current-mode switching DC-DC controller supports boost or SEPIC topologies and functions in the 400kHz to 2.2MHz frequency range. The device incorporates an integrated spread spectrum that assists in reducing EMI. An adaptive output-voltage-control scheme reduces power dissipation in the LED current-sink paths.

Control is incorporated for an external nMOSFET series switch to decrease quiescent current when the backlight is off and to disconnect the boost converter if a fault occurs. The device provides I2C-controlled PWM dimming and hybrid dimming. In either instance, the minimum pulse width is 500ns. Phase-shifted dimming of the strings is included for lower EMI. Extensive diagnostic information is offered through the I2C interface to ease integration in systems needing ASIL B compliance. The device is offered in a 24-pin TQFN or 24-pin side-wettable TQFN (SWTQFN) package and operates over the -40C to +125C temperature range.
