Diodes Incorporated has released the PI3EQX10612/PI3EQX10312 2-port 10Gbps linear ReDriver devices with integrated USB-C detection for equipment implementing a USB Type-C interface. Providing 1:2/2:1 mux/demux functionality, the ReDrivers can be employed to increase the reach of USB signals running over rigid or flexible PCBs in gaming consoles, desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and other consumer applications.
As the speed of serial buses continues to rise, overcoming signal integrity issues and transmission losses needs the usage of ReDrivers and retimers/repeaters. While retimers commonly terminate a signal prior to retransmitting it, which may introduce significant latency, the ReDrivers are created to amplify the signal while functioning at the same speed as the bus. The increased drive this gives can enable the serial bus to travel over particularly longer PCB traces with no loss of signal.
