The Linear Technology/Analog Devices LT8491 Buck-Boost Battery Charge Controller executes a constant-current constant-voltage charging profile employed for most battery types. This includes sealed lead-acid, flooded, gel, and lithium-ion. The device functions from input voltages above, below, or equal to the output voltage and can be powered by a solar panel or DC power supply.

The device features offer a VIN range of 6V to 80V and VBAT range of 1.3V to 80V. Also provided are automatic MPPT for Solar Powered Charging and automatic Temperature Compensation. I2C telemetry and configuration is provided with internal EEPROM for configuration storage. The device has synchronisable fixed frequency of 100kHz to 400kHz and is provided in a four-Lead (7mm x 11mm x 0.75mm) QFN package.

Typical applications include solar-powered battery chargers, multiple types of lead-acid battery charging, Li-Ion battery chargers, and battery-equipped industrial or portable defence equipment.
