COTS ferrite chip beads for EMI suppression in high-reliability applications

Vanguard Electronics has launched the CRFB Series, the COTS version of its proven RFB Series of ferrite chip beads. Designed for applications that demand rugged, reliable EMI suppression, the series delivers the same trusted performance with the flexibility and availability of a COTS solution.

The series builds upon the legacy of the RFB line, delivering compact, surface-mount ferrite beads with excellent noise filtering performance. Designed to suppress high-frequency interference and maintain signal integrity, these components are ideal for use in military, aerospace, industrial, and other high-reliability applications.

Available in COTS and RoHS-compliant versions, the series supports a wide range of impedance values from 10Ω to 2000Ω (measured at 100MHz) with current ratings up to 10A. This allows the series to accommodate low-power and high-current circuits across a variety of applications.

“This launch reinforces our commitment to scalable high-reliability solutions,” said Chris Vinson, director of Sales at Vanguard Electronics. “With CRFB now complementing our existing RFB and SRFB lines, customers have a full range of performance, compliance, and availability options for any level of application criticality.”

The series is offered in standard surface-mount package sizes from 0402 to 3312A, permitting easy integration into dense PCB layouts. A closed, linear magnetic path minimises crosstalk, which is vital in high-frequency environments. The components are built for durability, with terminations of tin-lead over nickel and resistance to shock, moisture, immersion, and soldering heat (up to 265C for ten seconds). They are rated for operating and storage temperatures ranging from −55C to +130C.

To meet specific engineering requirements, multiple impedance tolerances are available: ±25%, ±20%, ±10%, and ±5% (availability of tighter tolerances may vary by part number). Components are supplied in both bulk and tape-and-reel formats to support both prototyping and automated production environments.

As well as the CRFB and RFB versions, a space-qualified SRFB Series is also available for missions that need radiation tolerance and space-grade reliability.
