New compact pressure sensors offer easy installation and flexible features

OMRON Electronic Components Europe has released the E8Y-L series of compact pressure displays, which combine ease of installation with flexible features suitable for any industrial process control and equipment monitoring applications.

The 31mm × 30mm × 30mm units display sensed pressure on a three-digit, seven-segment LED panel and open-collector two-output connections. Some types have a standard industrial 4-20mA analogue output. Four options allow designers to select the pressure measurement range from 0-200Pa, 0-500Pa, 0-2kPa, and 0-5kPa. There is also a choice of a 4.5mm barb pressure port connection or a 1/8” BSPT die-cast threaded connector for standard pipe fittings, available with the two high-pressure variants.

The flexible options enable these sensors to monitor pressure in various scenarios and zones, such as maintaining regulated pressure in a clean room and automatically regulating ducts or valves. Among typical applications, the sensors are utilised in semiconductor wafer-processing reactors to monitor organic gas-flow paths during implantation and in safety systems such as purge-gas leakage detection. Users can easily set thresholds for the upper and lower limits of measurement pressure, which simplifies the detection of machinery faults, such as clogged exhausts or blocked vents.

Special features of the new sensors include zero-point adjustment, which enables users to set the zero point to any desired value, thereby simplifying the tracking of pressure changes. Additionally, automatic teaching allows the user to set the pressure at which the sensor turns on or off. Users interact with the device via four simple buttons on the front panel to select the measurement range, displayed channel, and operating mode.

The sensors can operate from -10C to 55C with no condensation or icing and with up to 85% relative humidity, permitting use in a wide variety of industrial environments. With a wide supply voltage range of 12V to 24V and consuming up to 50mA or 75mA, the sensors are ready to operate from popular industrial power rails. In total, the new E8Y-L product line contains 13 members, including all options for measurement range, output connection, and pressure port. All variants are in production now.
