Visible LED line lights offer superior illumination for colour inspection applications

ProPhotonix Limited has announced the addition of a new standard configuration to its innovative COBRA HyperSpec LED line light product range – visible hyperspectral LED lights.

Building on the earlier release of the COBRA HyperSpec Visible-IR with wavelengths between 400nm and 1000nm, this new addition concentrates solely on the visible band between 400nm and 700nm. Demonstrating a broad, flat, and fuller spectrum, it provides an excellent solution for various colour inspection applications such as colour integrity and surface finish inspections. This new visible hyperspectral line light supplies a superior solution to standard white phosphor-converted LED lights since these sources generally exhibit limited coverage across the visible spectral range. Colour inspection is critical to quality control in manufacturing a wide range of products, from high-end consumer goods to automotive to printed materials such as wallpaper and packaging, and the new visible-only device demonstrates exceptional colour rendering.

The device offers all the advantages of an LED-based light, including energy efficiency and long lifetimes, and advantages unique to the COBRA HyperSpec platform – such as superior light output from a compact form factor, integrated strobe and Ethernet control, and an intuitive interface allowing engineers to easily optimise their spectrum to the task or object at hand.

Built on the COBRA Slim platform, the compact device can be configured with up to 12 wavelengths. Chip-on-board LED technology allows a much higher packing density than competing products and ensures excellent uniformity and high intensity. The device is a modular product available in lengths up to 6m.

Simon Stanley, director of Technology at ProPhotonix (IRL), said, “We are pleased to announce the addition of the visible hyperspectral light to the COBRA HyperSpec range. This new configuration will enhance existing colour inspection systems and enable new applications. The COBRA platform is configurable for a wide range of applications and can be customised to address specific application needs.”
