New Raspberry Pi 4 case aimed at makers and industrial testing facilities plus science labs

Weidmüller has designed its u-maker box with the requirements of makers, testing labs, R&D departments and industry in mind. The product is now offered on Conrad's sourcing platform. The idea behind the design: programmers who operate Raspberry Pi 4 to control applications and people who develop their own smart home setups want to see the involved electronics well protected. The box does precisely that in a readily workable, customisable and extendable way. It also fits into every type of switchboard cabinet and complies with all DIN rail standards. In short, the company's versatile new casing supplies everything required to protect and mount electronic circuitry without using tools.

Projects centred around a Raspberry Pi need plenty of dedication and creative input. This is why people want to see the outcome well-protected and easily accessible. This new Basis Kit delivers enough space for a Raspberry Pi and one additional 5.08 baseboard to be fitted with a set of screws using the provided slots. The screws are part of the shipment. Side panels are detachable to house the cables and connectors of the circuitry to be placed in the casing. The housing has flexible expansion options that allow space for other electronic modules required to go into the box. For instance, there is room for a fan if the air vents of the box do not ensure sufficient cooling.

Handling the box is as simple as it gets. The black casing comes with magnets in each corner of the product, allowing toolless opening, closing and box expansion. Moreover, the cases are stackable. And if a setup requires the circuit boards to be fixed inside the box to stabilise the arrangement, there are pre-drilled holes for screws and nuts in each corner of the case.

3D printers can manufacture user-designed accessories compatible with the product and already existing components: The company provides a sizable online library of 3D templates comprising different types of side panels, cable clips, fan mounts and bases you can download and print.

The box comes with various safe attachment options. Two removable clips serve as adapters for a wide range of action camera mounts, including magnetic, clamp and adhesive types. The basic kit also ships with a mount for switchboards and DIN rails.

Dr Christian von Toll, head of Weidmüller Germany and manager of the DACH region, is very pleased with Conrad expanding their product lines in a dynamic way as it helps businesses simplify their sourcing procedures. "One aspect that makes collaborating with Conrad so amazing is the fact that they add new products to their range right away. We also appreciate the positive feedback from customers we and Conrad share across the industries with regard to the ease of integrating Conrad's electronic product catalogues into in-house procurement systems."
