New 3D camera supplies colour into space

17-10-2023 | IDS | Test & Measurement

With Ensenso C, IDS offers a stereo vision camera that generates 3D point clouds and delivers 2D images in colour (RGB) thanks to an extra integrated image sensor. This allows realistic 3D images and supports subsequent processes – for example, when the images are further processed to perform sorting tasks. Its compact housing is fully enclosed and complies with protection class IP65/67. This reliably protects the components from environmental influences and vibrations. Also, the camera is delivered pre-configured and is thereby ready to use. It is ideal for automating many industrial processes, such as quality control, assembly lines, or picking tasks.

Initially, the 3D camera is provided with a baseline of approximately 240mm, with further models with a baseline of approximately 455mm to be offered. Thanks to the combination of powerful 200W projector power and the high resolution of 5MP, the camera provides precise data even in large-volume applications. With the large baseline and small field of view, the models achieve a reproducible Z-accuracy of 0.2mm at a 2m object distance. Furthermore, the camera is designed so that temperature-related deviations of the depth values are lowered to a minimum: Deviations at 30cm distance at 10C temperature change less than 0.075mm, for example. A diffused white light LED also supports with 2D colour imaging in applications with changing ambient light conditions.

The camera fits seamlessly into the 3D camera range from the company. This product line is designed for industrial necessities and combines precision with cost-effectiveness. Whether with fully integrated housing, modular design or integrated data processing: The Ensenso N, S, X, XR, and, as of now, Ensenso C families provide solutions for a broad range of needs from bin picking to quality control. Users can consult the Ensenso selector on the company's website to select the right model for their particular application.
