Highly integrated power module series for low-power devices

Infineon Technologies AG released the new intelligent power module (IPM) series iMOTION IMI110. The series incorporates the iMOTION Motion Control Engine (MCE) with a three-phase gate driver and 600V/2A or 600V/4A IGBTs in a compact DSO-22 package. The integrated motor controller series is ideal for motors in small and large household appliance, fans and pumps with typically 70W output power. Depending on the system design, even higher outputs can be delivered.

The field-proven MCE implements highly efficient field-oriented control in sensorless motor inverters. The ready-to-use MCE is provided with a code-free motor control and integrated scripting. With its software tool Solution Designer for simple configuration and tuning, the MCE facilitates the development of highly integrated, function-optimised motor control solutions, providing fast time-to-market. Also, rapid prototyping of a customer specific IPM is facilitated through two new control boards for the iMOTION Modular Application Design Kit.

The series provides improved creepage and clearance. The devices also supply excellent ruggedness and reliability and are qualified according to HV-H3TRB. Sensorless single-shunt operation, integrated bootstrap diodes, and single-layer PCB design add to a reduced BOM. These devices are pre-certified for applications needing functional safety to UL/IEC 60730 (Class B) standard. Furthermore, they provide a full set of protection features in hardware and software.
