Power module family enables applications in photovoltaic string inverters

Infineon Technologies AG has added EasyPACK 4B to its industry-leading Easy power module family. The lead-type of the new family targets applications in photovoltaic string inverters. This application can achieve up to 352kW and enables a considerable increase in output power of about 40% compared to the previous generation PV inverter of 250kW using EasyPACK 3B. The module aims to allow a simpler but more powerful inverter design with higher power density and lower system costs. The device is ideal for 1500VDC solar string inverters.

With the introduction of the F3L600R10W4S7F_C22 lead-type, it is now the largest package in the family with three DCB substrates. Nonetheless, it still provides a no-baseplate design, 12mm height, PressFit pins and flexible pinout, and more. Like the other Easy packages, it provides flexibility in platform-based solutions. The package expands the EasyPACK 3B hold-down concept to provide low thermal resistance (R th) and to increase robustness and quality. Like the existing Easy family members, the new family has optimised stray inductance for lower design efforts.

The lead-type power module F3L600R10W4S7F_C22 offers an advanced three-level NPC (ANPC) topology that integrates the latest generation of 1200V CoolSiC Schottky diode with the latest 950V TRENCHSTOP IGBT7 chip technology for up to 600A. ANPC is a favoured topology in solar string inverters and provides high efficiency and low power losses. This blend of topology and chip optimises the usefulness of the power semiconductor.
