Diodes Incorporated has increased its portfolio of USB PD solutions by bringing two new high-performance USB PD3.0 sink controller ICs to the market. The DIODES AP33771 and DIODES AP33772 sink controllers are aimed at home appliances and cordless power tools, allowing the appropriate voltage level to be negotiated through USB-C. They provide an operating voltage range of 3.3V to 24V.

The AP33771's simple pin-driven setting of needed voltages and power makes it simpler to use. At the same time, the AP33772 offers greater flexibility for more sophisticated designs that employ a µC (with an I²C interface included). Both devices have built-in application firmware, automatically carrying out the PD3.0 negotiation procedure with the attached USB PD3.0 compliant charger to obtain the necessary power level. LED lighting (driven by one of their GPIOs) clearly indicates the charging state and potential fault situation.

The AP33771 has a preloaded power menu comprising eight different output voltages and ten different power levels. The end equipment's power demands can be met by altering simple resistor settings. It also offers 5V charging when connected to a classical USB Type-A charger and supports USB Type-C to USB Type-C cable voltage drop compensation.

The I²C interface on the AP33772 provides more sophisticated system designs to be satisfied. It can specify particular power profiles, allowing access to various protection features.

The devices are supplied in 24-pin W-QFN4040 packages.
