Electrolube is launching a new conformal coating that it claims will be a complete game-changer for the electronics community. The first-to-market UVCLX, UV Cure Coating Xtra, is a pioneering new bio coating where 75% of the organic content is collected from renewable sources. The new eco-friendly coating innovation is one of the company's most versatile, high-level performance coatings yet for shielding electronic circuitry against the severest of environments, especially within the automotive industry where components are at high risk from chemical attack.

Coating materials have commonly been formulated in solvent-based form. However, the usage of solvents has become more restricted from an environmental point of view, and consumers are frequently becoming aware of the ‘waste’ of these processes in the form of the energy needed to eliminate the solvents, as well as the impact of their release on the environment. The company's new solvent-free technology answers the needs of manufacturers and consumers, fundamentally based on global ethical changes, performance levels and process.

The ground-breaking product is a bio-based conformal coating that is unique to the industry and offers the highest levels of protection while sustaining a swift processing time. Applied by a selective coating machine, it outperforms traditional UV Cure Coatings, being touch dry after only a short exposure to LED-365nm UV light. It guarantees full cure in less than 24 hours through the secondary chemical cure mechanism, which assures that even shadowed areas are completely cured in a matter of hours. It performs in stark comparison to conventional UV Cure Coatings, which may require weeks at a time for a total cure and still with some shadowed areas remaining uncured.

Optimally applied at between 200-350μm, the new bio coating delivers excellent edge coverage even over sharp components and the highest levels of protection, even throughout temperature cycling and thermal shock, greatly out-performing other UV coatings on the market even in the severest environments. It offers outstanding performance due to its hydrophobic nature, which assures it offers superior protection against moisture, salt mist and even full immersion for short periods. This immersion period can be increased by applying a thicker coating.

Camouflaging components and PCB tracks for more sensitive designs, it is an opaque green coating. The versatility enables it to be used wherever a coating is required and is excellent for automotive and EV applications.
