Power IC simplifies design and manufacture of flyback power converters

The Power Integrations InnoSwitch3-EP family of ICs, available now from RS Components, dramatically simplifies the design and manufacture of flyback power converters, especially those needing high efficiency and/or compact size. The family includes a high-voltage power switch, primary and secondary controllers, and safety-rated feedback into a single IC. These devices include multiple protection features, providing line over and under-voltage protection, output over-voltage and over-current limiting, and over-temperature shutdown. Devices are offered with standard and peak power delivery options and generally use auto-restart protection behaviours.

The family offers very high efficiency across full load range. They incorporate a multi-mode Quasi-Resonant (QR)/CCM flyback controller, high-voltage switch, secondary-side sensing and synchronous rectification driver, offering excellent multi-output cross-regulation with weighted secondary-side regulation (SSR) feedback and synch FETs. They also offer exceptional CV/CC accuracy, independent of external components. The device offers adjustable and accurate output current sense using an external output sense resistor.

Also offered is auto-restart output UV protection with option for peak power delivery. The family is fully Safety and Regulatory Compliant; UL1577 and TUV (EN60950, EN62368) safety approved. Excellent noise immunity enables designs that deliver class 'A' performance criteria for EN61000-4 suite; EN61000-4-2, 4-3 (30V/m), 4-4, 4-5, 4-6, 4-8 (100A/m) and 4-9 (1000A/m) and Ford FMC1278 (RI-115).
