Low-cost DC-DC converter ideal for e-mobility applications

RECOM has launched the REC8E range of low-cost, high-efficiency, 8W DC-DC converters specifically designed for battery-powered applications. Three input voltage ranges are offered: 9-18V (12V systems), 18-36V (24V systems) and 20-60V (48V systems), the latter matching the LV 148 demands for 48V Li-ion voltages in vehicles. To evade a damaging deep discharge, under-voltage lockout is incorporated to automatically switch off the converter if the battery voltage drops below safe levels. Fully protected output voltages are offered: 5V, 9V, 12V, 15V, 24, +/-12V and +/-15V. All outputs are tightly regulated and will drive high capacitive loads over an extended temperature range of -40C to +75C without derating. An on/off control pin is installed as standard to decrease the supply current to lower than 0.7mA in shutdown mode. EMI from the device is very low, with just simple, low-cost external components needed for compliance with EN 55032 class A or B emission limits. The isolation rating is 1.6kV/1 minute, and the devices are certified to UL/IEC/EN 62368-1. The device is offered in an industry-standard 1” x 1” low profile, non-metallic package, ideal for employment in high-density PCBs.

“This latest addition to our Econoline series is a great combination of performance and value” commented Steve Roberts, innovation manager of RECOM, “It suits 48V Li-ion inputs in e-mobility as well as in general industry and test and measurement applications”.
