Programmable power supplies address EV and hydrogen production applications

TDK Corporation has introduced 50V, 400V and 500V output models to the TDK-Lambda GENESYS+ series of programmable DC power supplies. With output power levels covering 5kW, 10kW and 15kW in 1U, 2U and 3U high 19” rack-mount packages, the new G50, G400, G500, GSP50, GSP400 and GSP500 models are completely compatible with the current series. The extra models are aimed at testing EV powertrains and other automotive sub-systems, and PEM electrolysers for hydrogen production. These optimised output voltages allow the power supplies to provide more current without necessitating paralleling two or more units.

All models seamlessly transition in constant voltage and constant current modes and also provide constant power operation. For higher power systems, several power supplies can be attached in parallel with a patented advanced master/slave system that gives dynamic load response, ripple and noise characteristics similar to that of a single power supply.

The new products can be obtained with three-phase input ranges of 170-264VAC, 342-460VAC or 342-528VAC. The 5kW units weigh less than 5kg for easy transportation or installation. Where user access is not needed or requires to be restricted, a blank front panel option (with no metering or control functions) is offered. Snap-on dust filters may also be attached to limit airborne contamination.

Programming is standardised across the complete series by either front panel controls, remotely via LAN (LXI 1.5), USB 2.0 and RS232/485 communications, or by utilising the isolated analogue control and monitoring (0-5V, 0-10V) which are offered as standard. Optional interfaces comprise a choice of GPIB (IEEE488.2) and the Anybus CompactCom interface platform for EtherCAT, Modbus-TCP and other interface options as they are issued. Software drivers, a waveform creator and a virtual front panel GUI are presented in the software package. Safety features are standard in all of the series power supplies, giving Safe/Auto Re-Start, Last Setting Memory and built-in protection functions.

The five-year warranty series is safety certified to IEC/EN/UL 61010-1 with CE marking to the Low Voltage, EMC and RoHS Directives. The series is also compliant to IEC/EN 61203-3 for conducted and radiated EMI and EMC immunity.
