TDK Corporation has introduced the TDK-Lambda DBM20 DIN rail mount 24V 20A buffer module. The buffer module is excellent for giving short term hold-up or peak power for loads connected to a 24VDC output AC/DC power supply. The device can provide an additional 250ms hold-up at 448W output power or 2s with a 2.5A load. The increased hold-up time enables equipment to safely shutdown and evades data loss through AC power interruptions. Applications for the module incorporate industrial automation, robotics and semiconductor fabrication equipment.

A remote on/off function to evade unsafe discharge of stored energy, a DC OK relay, LED indicators and photo-coupled signals showing fully charged and discharging modes are provided as standard. Multiple modules may be paralleled for longer buffer times. Energy is stored in electrolytic capacitors, bypassing the necessity for servicing and maintenance of batteries. A front panel accessible switch may be utilised to choose either fixed or variable voltage buffer levels. In fixed mode, it will produce power when the input voltage drops to 22.4V, in variable mode when the input lowers by 1V.

Measuring only 49mm x 123.6mm x 115.4mm (WxHxD), the units will run in ambient temperatures ranging from -25C to +70C. The five-year warranty DBM20 has protection against both input overvoltage and overcurrent conditions. Inrush current reduction and internal fuses are also provided. Safety certification includes IEC/UL/CSA/EN 62368-1, UL 508 with CE marking to the Low Voltage, EMC and RoHS Directives.
