Enhanced gate driver ICs provides greater design flexibility

Infineon Technologies has released the EiceDRIVER X3 Enhanced analog (1ED34xx) and digital (1ED38xx) gate driver ICs. These devices offer a typical output current of 3, 6 and 9A, precise short-circuit detection, a Miller clamp and soft turn-off. Also, 1ED34xx provides an adjustable desaturation filter time and soft turn-off current with external resistors. These features merge to accelerate design cycles due to a lower external component count. 1ED38xx offers I 2C configurability for multiple parameters. This improves design flexibility, lowers hardware complexity and shrinks evaluation time. These gate drivers are ideal for industrial drives, UPS, solar systems, EV chargers and other industrial applications.

The families are developed for IGBTs as well as for SiC and Si MOSFETs in discrete and module packages. The output current of up to 9A removes the necessity for external booster components. Outstanding CMTI robustness of more than 200kV/µs evades faulty switching patterns. Both gate-driver families offer a 40V absolute maximum output supply voltage and a tight propagation delay matching of 30ns (max.), producing a shorter dead time. The I 2C configurability options for the 1ED38xx comprise short-circuit detection, soft turn-off, UVLO, a Miller clamp and overtemperature shutdown. This gate driver family also provides a two-level turn-off through software settings.

The gate drivers are supplied in a small DSO-16 fine pitch package with 8mm creepage. Both are UL 1577-certified for 5.7kV RMS which, together with precise thresholds and timings, assures exceptional application safety. They are constructed to withstand the rugged environments of industrial applications.
