Binder has released its new 818 Series of M8 D-Coded connectors. These will be of interest to engineers who want to connect miniature sensors to Ethernet networks over applications that employ the latest automation technology.

These connectors are especially designed to support the high data bandwidths that are growing in smart factories as well as guarding against the mixture of demanding environments frequently found in industry. When these connectors are mated and locked they protect to IP67.

The connectors are around 30% smaller than conventional M12 connectors and yet can provide high-performance Ethernet connections of up to 100Mbit/s Cat. 5e according to IEEE 802.3. As these M8 connectors are PoE+ compatible, they can provide both, data and power to the sensor simultaneously.

With four gold-plated brass contacts, symmetrically arranged and a Nickel-plated threaded ring, the connectors offer a rated current of 4A and rated voltage of 63VDC. Termination is by screw clamp and wires from 0.14 to 0.5mm2 can be accommodated.

Operating temperature range is extensive at -25C to +85C, and the company has designed the series to be capable of over 100 mating cycles.
