Long-life 24V battery modules for industrial applications

Murata has produced an all-in-one 24V standard battery module, that is excellent for any industrial equipment needing high levels of output such as AGV) and robots. The FORTELION 24V battery module is furnished with FORTELION, the company's proprietary Li-ion secondary battery, which employs an olivine type Li-ion phosphate as the cathode material which combes long life with a particularly high level of safety.

The company is committed to decreasing the usage of batteries that contain lead. This new module provides longer life, fast charging and a high level of safety as well as being the same size as an equivalent lead-acid battery.

As the new module delivers 24V, it can replace two series-connected 12V lead-acid batteries often found in many service robots, AGVs and electric forklifts. The module has an IP54 rating, providing protection against dust and water, and also satisfies the UL2271 safety demand for batteries for light electric vehicles, thereby verifying that it is safe for outdoor use.

The product satisfies the demand for long life in industrial applications. While lead-acid batteries typically need replacing at around 500 cycles and regular Li-ion batteries wear out after 2-3,000 cycles, the FORTELION technology is created to complete at least 10,000 charge-discharge cycles.

The company's extensive experience with PCs, mobile phones and other devices, as well as their unique arithmetic processing technology enables them to precisely calculate the residual battery capacity. This can be communicated to the wider system through the inbuilt CAN bus.
