Miniature MEMS IMU is a cost-effective method for multiaxis inertial sensing

08-01-2020 | Analog Devices | Test & Measurement

Analog Devices ADIS16505 Precision MEMS IMU incorporates a triaxial gyroscope and a triaxial accelerometer. The device offers a simplified, cost-effective approach for combining accurate, multiaxis inertial sensing into industrial systems.

The device features inertial sensors that link with signal conditioning optimising dynamic performance. The factory calibration characterises each sensor for sensitivity, alignment, bias, linear acceleration, and point of percussion. As a consequence, each sensor provides dynamic compensation formulas, that give accurate sensor measurements over a wide set of conditions.

All necessary motion testing and calibration are components of the production process at the factory, providing system integration time to be considerably reduced. Tight orthogonal alignment eases inertial frame alignment in navigation systems. The SPI and register structure give a simple interface for data collection and configuration control.

The device is provided in a 100-ball, BGA package that is approximately 15mm x 15mm x 5mm.
