ModBUS-TCP interface option added to programmable DC power supply series

TDK Corporation has introduced a ModBUS‑TCP interface option to the GENESYS+ series of programmable DC power supplies. The option is offered on all models extending from the 1U high half-rack GH1.5kW to the 3U high full rack GSP15kW. The industry-standard protocol is employed for transmission of information between electronic devices for the supervision and control of automation equipment. This GENESYS+ option enables users to remotely program, measure and check status of the power supply by transmitting information using a TCP/IP protocol over a ModBUS‑TCP network.

ModBUS‑TCP expands the number of available user operating modes to six, incorporating the currently available LAN, RS-232/RS-485, USB, Remote Isolated Analogue, and front panel (local) interfaces. While controlled by the Remote Isolated Analogue or front panel, the ModBUS‑TCP interface is still able to be used to monitor the series functionality.

Software drivers, a waveform creator and a virtual front panel GUI are supplied in the software package. Employing the GUI interface, the IP and MAC address can be viewed, a complete IP address can be set up, a ModBUS‑TCP reset performed, and by observing the REM indicator, it is possible to identify remote operation.

The interface can communicate over a standard TCP/IP network, incorporating LAN and WAN, with PING server also supported. A built‑in webpage gives the ability to read and configure the Ethernet configuration parameters, view ModBUS‑TCP statistics and verify communication. Complete remote program/monitor functions are offered, compatible with ModBUS‑TCP test and measurement utilities utilising the ModBUS‑TCP command language. Programming employing TCP sockets, which support PLCs, Linux and other non-VISA controllers, is supported with multiple and simultaneous socket (up to four) connections enabled by port 502.
