Texas Instruments THVD1505 RS-485 Transceiver is a low-power RS-485 transceiver with automatic bus-polarity correction and transient protection. Once the device has been hot plugged-in, it detects and corrects the bus polarity within the first 45ms of bus idling. The bus pins are strong against electrostatic discharge events, with high levels of protection to the human-body model, IEC 61000-4-2 contact discharge and air-gap discharge specifications.

The device consolidates a differential driver and a differential receiver, which run together from a single 5V power supply. The driver differential outputs and the receiver differential inputs are connected internally to create a bus port fit for half-duplex (two-wire bus) communication. The device highlights a wide common-mode voltage range making the device ideal for multi-point applications over long cable runs. The device is offered in a SOIC-8 package and is characterised for free-air temperatures from –40C to 125C.

Typical applications include electricity meters, HVAC systems, inverters, and video surveillance.
