XP Power has launched the CMP250 series of high peak power AC/DC power supply units, primarily targeting healthcare, industrial and IT applications. Providing a flexible mixture of electrical and thermal characteristics, the power supplies deliver up to 500W of peak power for up to 60 seconds, as well as giving 250W of continuous convection-cooled power. This high level of flexibility makes the series perfect for motor applications and other electromechanical loads with no need for fan cooling across a range of applications. For medical applications, the device has an I/O isolation of 4kVAC, provides 2 x MOPP I/O isolation and 1 x MOPP isolation from both input to ground and output to ground, all rated at the AC input voltage. Maximum earth leakage current of 250uA coupled with a maximum patient leakage current of 80uA and these isolation characteristics make the device an ideal choice for BF applications, targeted at a range of equipment such as motorised beds and chairs, surgical tools, use in life support and imaging products. Also, the series is ideal for a variety of industrial and IT applications, especially supporting those applications that have requirements for long-duration peak currents to drive equipment such as printers and other electromechanical loads. Supplied in a low-profile 1U-high chassis and 7.5" x 4" footprint and operating from a universal 80 to 264VAC input, the series is available in three different models, respectively offering outputs of 24, 36 or 48VDC. Other key features of the unit comprise constant-current overload characteristics, a 5V/1.5A standby output and a 12V/0.6A auxiliary output. Extra features include: output inhibit, remote sense, AC OK/Power Fail signal and the ability to current share up to three units in parallel. These features give many options to the end system designer. Specific dimensions of the series are 190.5mm x 101.6mm x 39.9mm; the series also comes in a covered version with dimensions of 200.5mm x 104.6mm x 48.8mm. Respective IT and medical safety application approvals for the series include IT EN/IEC/UL60950-1 and EN/IEC/UL62368-1; and ANSI/AAMI ES60601-1, EN60601-1 and IEC60601-1. The series also meets EN55032/11 Class B conducted, and Class A radiated emissions. The ability to meet Class B radiated emissions is also possible with additional external components.
