Foremost Electronics offers the latest addition to the Binder HEC (Harsh Environment Connector) series of connectors designed specifically for outdoor use. The new Series 696 HEC power connector power connector can handle up to 32A at a rated voltage of 600V and is offered in both cable and panel mount formats with 4+PE silver-plated male or female contacts. The company is also offering a matching panel-mount connector with a hinged cover for maximum protection when not mated. Created for fast and simple assembly, the Series 696 HEC female connector protects to IP67/IPX9K and can be supplied with 4+PE eight (4+3+PE) and 12 silver-plated contacts and features crimp termination. The connectors are manufactured from a tough UL 94V-0 rated polyamide and include a three-point bayonet locking system that offers quick and secure fastening. They are waterproof and dustproof to IP68/IP69k and can resist the levels of harsh treatment encountered in applications like agriculture and construction where the use of high-pressure washing is common. Other applications include process engineering plants, traffic and signalling systems, water purification facilities and recycling equipment. The connectors have a robust and safe coding mechanism to stop incorrect orientation and have an operating life of over 1000 mating cycles. The use of a variety of crimp contacts ensures a secure, vibration-proof termination. Alan Vincent, sales director of Foremost, comments, “Electronic equipment is increasing being used outdoors and in harsh environments. These new Binder harsh environment connectors offer designers a rugged and reliable interconnection solution.”
