A broad input voltage range and integrated power MOSFET make the AL8862 buck LED driver, from Diodes Incorporated, a solution ideal for developers of LED lighting drive circuits wishing to reduce board space and minimise BoM costs with exceptional analogue and PWM dimming functions. With a typical output current accuracy of 5% at up to 1A and 97% efficiency, the device can run from an input voltage range between 5V and 60V, making it fitting for industrial, commercial, or architectural lighting. Its small form means it can also be used in appliances of all sizes. An external control pin accepts either an analogue or PWM signal to add dimming capabilities, which brings an additional dimension to connected lighting, such as colour mixing. The integrated MOSFET is rated at 60V, making the device a viable solution for higher power output applications. Leveraging Diodes Incorporated’s proprietary technology, the MOSFET also has an ultra-low Rds(on) of just 0.4Ohm, which delivers high efficiency while minimising the need for external components. Comprehensive protection against possible fault conditions caused by short or open circuits is also included, along with over-temperature protection.
