Develop open source networking with OpenThread sandbox platform

01-09-2016 | Mouser Electronics | Design & Manufacture

Available now from Mouser is the OpenThread Sandbox development kit from Dialog Semiconductor. As a complete development platform for OpenThread, an open source implementation of the Thread networking protocol, the Sandbox development kit provides developers with plug-and-play hardware and OpenThread software to help design connected home, IoT, and automation applications. Their OpenThread Sandbox development kit contains all the components required for developers to get started designing Thread-based networks. The Thread protocol is a low-power, IPv6-addressable, self-healing mesh network with advanced security implemented at the networking layer. The protocol provides secure, distributed short-range RF networks for the IoT market and connected products for wireless industrial applications. The OpenThread Sandbox development kit comprises a USB or coin cell battery-powered hardware development board based on their Thread-capable 802.15.4 SmartBond SoC, which can be accessed over UART and JTAG with no additional external hardware. In addition, the company’s SmartSnippets SDK, as well as software tooling and documentation in the kit, provide an ideal environment to contribute to OpenThread software development available through the GitHub repository.
