High-efficiency monolithic synchronous step-down DC-DC converter

Intersil's ISL8018 synchronous buck regulator is now available from Mouser stock. The high-efficiency monolithic synchronous step-down DC-DC converter can deliver up to 8A continuous output current from a 2.7V to 5.5V input supply. The output voltage is adjustable from 0.6V to VIN. The ISL8018 offers both SYNCIN and SYNCOUT features which allow multiple regulators to synchronize operating on the same frequency. The phases can also adjust so that ON time does not overlap, reducing the input RMS current, input capacitance requirement, ripple and improving EMI and efficiency. The ISL8018 has a VSET feature which is the output margining setting. Increase output by 10% by simply transitioning VSET from float to high for compensating IR drop of the output. Output can reduce by 10% when VSET is set to low for reducing output power dissipation. The ISL8018 offers ISET feature which adjust the output current limit to support 8A, 5A and 3A applications. Leverage one design to increase volume and reduce cost. The inductor design does not have to oversize which reduces board area. Applications include DC-DC PoL modules, µC/µP, FPGA and DSP power systems, plug-in DC-DC modules for routers /switchers, portable instruments, test and measurement systems, and Li-ion battery-powered devices.
