Littelfuse has expanded its popular LV UltraMOV varistor series to provide solutions for applications with higher DC voltage and surge requirements. The series, introduced to the market in 2013, originally offered continuous voltage ratings from 14VDC to 56VDC with surge current rating of up to 8kA (8/20µs pulse). The expanded line adds higher continuous voltage ratings from 65VDC to 125VDC, and an enhanced surge current rating of up to 10kA (8/20µs pulse). It combines these higher ratings with the smallest footprint on the market by reducing their size by more than 40 percent over competing solutions. The series is available in disc diameters of 5mm, 7mm, 10mm, 14mm and 20mm. The expanded LV UltraMOV Varistor Series provides an ideal circuit protection solution for an even wider range of DC voltage applications than the original line. The expanded voltage ratings meet the voltage requirement for all telecommunication applications and the enhanced surge current rating ensures more robust surge protection. Applications include telecom power systems, surge protection devices, wireless base stations, automation controls, audio and video devices, security systems and fire alarm systems, says the company. “The enhanced LV UltraMOV Varistor Series provides an ideal circuit protection solution for DC voltage applications,” said Johnny Chang, product manager, LV UltraMOV Series Varistor product line. “The maximum peak surge current can reach up to 10kA to protect against damage from high peak surge current induced by indirect lightning strike interference, system switching and abnormal power surges.”
