Miniature industrial-grade multi-turn SMD cermet trimmers for harsh environments

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has introduced a new series of industrial-grade, multi-turn, surface-mount cermet trimmers. These devices, part of the Vishay Sfernice TSM41 series, are designed for space-constrained applications in harsh environments. They feature a compact 4mm x 4mm footprint, a wide temperature range of -55C to +140C, and IP67 sealing.

Compared to previous-generation devices, the trimmers are 42% smaller, permitting designers to save board space and optimise package density. Additionally, the series delivers precise tuning within a wide resistance range of 10Ω to 1MΩ and achieves a faster setting-to-time ratio than single-turn trimmers. With a power rating of 0.25W at +85C, these trimmers are available in top and side adjustment styles, supplying flexibility for various design needs.

The TSM41 series can be mounted directly to the PCB, facilitating automated assembly and setting processes. This improves production efficiency, saving time and lowering costs, while permitting components to be placed on both sides of the board. Fully sealed to withstand standard board wash processing, these trimmers provide reliability in applications such as welding equipment, power tools, smoke detectors, and heating, cooling, and ventilation systems.
