FORTEC United Kingdom has expanded its portfolio of advanced power solutions with the launch of the Cincon CRT100W12 Series—a high-performance DC-DC converter engineered for rugged environments.

Designed for the rigorous demands of railway and industrial systems, the CRT100W12 delivers up to 100W of isolated power with an exceptionally wide 12:1 input voltage range of 14.4–160VDC.

With peak efficiencies reaching up to 92% and reinforced 3000VAC isolation, the module ensures reliable performance and electrical safety across a wide range of use cases.

The converter meets key industry standards including EN 50155 and EN 45545-2, making it an ideal choice for rolling stock, trackside equipment, and high-vibration industrial environments.

Key Features and Benefits

Designed to meet the rigorous demands of railway and industrial environments, the CRT100W12 Series integrates advanced electrical performance with mechanical durability. Each feature has been engineered to enhance system reliability, reduce downtime, and simplify integration in mission-critical applications.

a. Ultra-Wide Input Range (14.4–160VDC)

The CRT100W12 Series supports an exceptional 12:1 input voltage range, from 14.4V to 160VDC. This broad range ensures compatibility with a wide variety of input sources, making it well-suited for rolling stock and systems subject to fluctuating supply conditions.

The converter is compliant with EN 50155 Class S3 and Class C2 transient standards, enabling robust operation in railway environments with demanding power profiles.

b. High Efficiency Design

Offering up to 92% efficiency across all output configurations (12V, 24V, and 48V models), the CRT100W12 Series minimizes energy losses while supporting thermally efficient designs.

This high efficiency reduces thermal output, enhances system reliability, and simplifies cooling requirements in space-constrained enclosures.

c. High Isolation & Protection Suite

Reinforced 3000VAC isolation between input and output ensures compliance with stringent safety requirements for safety-critical applications.

The unit features comprehensive protections including over-voltage protection (OVP), over-current protection (OCP), over-temperature protection (OTP), under-voltage lockout (UVLO), short-circuit protection, and input reverse polarity protection.

d. Thermal and Mechanical Resilience

Engineered for harsh environments, the converter operates across an ambient temperature range of –40°C to +90°C, ensuring reliability in extreme thermal conditions.

A baseplate-cooled and semi-potted design improves heat dissipation and enhances protection in high-moisture environments. It also meets EN 61373 shock and vibration standards, supporting use in mobile and high-impact installations.

e. Compact and Flexible Integration

The CRT100W12 features a compact, enclosed chassis-mount form factor ideal for rail and industrial systems with limited installation space.

Available options include models with integrated Oring FETs for redundant architectures, as well as an output LED indicator to provide clear visual diagnostics during operation.

Target Applications

The Cincon CRT100W12 Series is specifically designed for use in environments where reliability, performance, and compact design are critical.

Railway Systems

  • Traction systems and propulsion electronics
  • Onboard communication and control units
  • Trackside equipment and wayside signalling
  • Passenger information and safety systems

Industrial Applications

  • Factory automation and process control
  • Remote monitoring and sensor systems
  • Embedded control panels and HMIs
  • Industrial robotics and motor drives

With its robust mechanical design, wide input range, and compact footprint, the CRT100W12 Series is ideally suited for mission-critical deployments where system uptime and performance must be maintained under extreme operating conditions.

Standards and Compliance

The CRT100W12 Series is fully certified to meet the stringent requirements of modern railway and industrial systems. Its robust design ensures reliable operation in compliance with essential safety, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and environmental standards.

  • EN 50155 – Electronic equipment used on rolling stock for railway applications
  • EN 45545-2 – Fire protection on railway vehicles
  • EN 55032 / EN 55035 – Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards for multimedia equipment
  • EN 50121-3-2 – EMC requirements for railway apparatus

Additionally, the converter is designed to meet UL 62368-1 3rd edition requirements, offering reinforced insulation for enhanced user and equipment safety in critical applications.

Model Variants

The CRT100W12 Series is available in three single-output configurations to support a wide range of system voltage requirements. Each variant is engineered to deliver stable power output, low ripple, and high precision performance.

Model Output Voltage Output Current Max Output Ripple Voltage Accuracy Recommended Capacitance
CRT100W12-72S12 12V 8.34A 100mV (peak-to-peak) ±1.0% 8,330 µF
CRT100W12-72S24 24V 4.17A 100mV (peak-to-peak) ±1.0% 4,200 µF
CRT100W12-72S48 48V 2.09A 100mV (peak-to-peak) ±1.0% 2,100 µF

All models maintain full regulation under dynamic load and input conditions, and are optimized for high capacitance loads typical in power-sensitive railway and industrial systems.
