Wi-Fi 7 FEMs for mobile and home network equipment

15-12-2023 | Mouser Electronics | Semiconductors

Mouser now stocks the newest Wi-Fi 7 FEM from Qorvo. Wi-Fi 7 is the latest Wi-Fi standard, also known as IEEE 802.11be EHT. Wi-Fi 7 works across three separate bands (2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz) to use spectrum resources fully. Wi-Fi 7 provides faster data speeds, lower latencies, and increased network capacity thanks to new capabilities designed to support large numbers of users and devices in bandwidth-intensive environments and exceptional performance for customer premises equipment, smart home devices, portable consumer electronics and wearables.

The Qorvo QM42500 and QM45500 provide 2.4GHz and 5GHz to 7GHz frequency ranges, respectively. These devices are optimised for a broad 3V to 5V operating range, making them ideal for mobile applications such as smartphones, tablets and wearables such as VR/AR goggles.

The QPF4259 and QPF4559 are 2GHz and 5GHz modules ideal for wireless access points, wireless routers, set-top boxes and customer premise equipment. The performance of these devices is focused on optimising the integrated power amplifier for a 5V supply voltage. This design conserves power consumption while keeping the highest linear output power and leading-edge throughput.

As Wi-Fi 7 devices, these FEMs provide compatibility with Matter, a new connectivity standard for IoT devices. Matter is a universal software layer, a foundation for connected things and their applications, built upon and compatible with various protocols. By utilising standard IP as the communication protocol, Matter acts as the universal IoT standard compatible with the multiple protocols deployed in homes today.

The QM42500EVB, QM45500EVB, QPF4259EVB01, and QPF4559EVB01 evaluation boards are also available to order and supply a demonstration and development platform for these Wi-Fi 7 modules. Each board provides a pre-mounted target device and the needed support circuitry. These evaluation boards supply an example application circuit, enabling rapid prototyping when included in existing designs.
