Mouser is now shipping the LTM8080 µModule regulator fraom Analog Devices. The device is a super low-noise, dual output DC-DC μModule regulator with patented silicon, layout and packaging innovations, specifically created to power digital loads while decreasing switching regulator noise for data converters, RF transmitters, FPGAs, op-amps, transceivers, medical scanners and more.

The regulator features an integrated front-end, high efficiency, synchronous Silent Switcher step-down regulator, supported by two separate low noise, LDO regulators. To further suppress switching noise, the device’s packaging incorporates an EMI barrier shield to produce outstanding low noise values of <1µVRMS (10Hz to 100kHz), 2nV/√Hz (10kHz) spot noise, and 80dB PSRR (power supply rejection ratio) (100kHz). Compared to discrete solutions without an EMI shield, the device lessens output ripple voltage by up to 70% for a simplified and quiet design.

Operating from 3.5V up to 40V input, the µModule regulator has a built-in voltage tracking function that automatically sets VBUS to either 2.5V nominal or 1V higher than VOUT1, whichever is greater, to attain superior noise performance and minimise power dissipation. It provides an intermediate power bus and dual output 0.5A LDO regulators, which are adjustable to 3.3V/0.5A, and the package comprises the controllers, power switches, inductors, and support components. The device is packaged in a thermally enhanced, compact (9mm × 6.2 mm × 3.32mm) over-moulded BGA package, suited for automated assembly by standard surface mount equipment, and is RoHS compliant.

The µModule regulator is supported by the Analog Devices DC3071A evaluation board, available to order. The evaluation board supplies an example application circuit based on the LTM8080 µModule, allowing rapid prototyping when incorporated into existing designs.
