Mouser has launched a new eBook in collaboration with Texas Instruments to investigate the latest challenges facing the next generation of air transportation and to examine the best ways for designers to overcome them.

In 'Addressing New Challenges in Urban Air Mobility', eight industry experts provide insights into the rapidly developing trend for electric Urban Air Mobility (UAM) vehicles. The five chapters of the eBook cover a glimpse into the future of UAM vehicles, the industry's latest challenges, how to provide functional safety, the significance of electrical isolation and managing UAM complexity and weight.

The prospect of safe, convenient and efficient urban air transport presents an exciting look into the future. The opportunity to lower road traffic and travel by air would save commuters' time and cut down on urban carbon emissions. Over the next ten years, the UAM market will mature adequately, making short-distance, point-to-point travel commonplace and inexpensive in densely populated areas via driverless air taxis. To ensure passenger safety, UAM vehicles must follow predefined routes, comply with air traffic control, and fully develop electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) capabilities. However, to guarantee the successful long-term future of these vehicles, safety and a positive public perception will be vital.

The eBook provides quick links to assist designers in improving functional safety, electrical isolation and battery management systems for these vehicles. They include cutting-edge components from Texas Instruments, such as the UCC14240-Q1 Evaluation Module, the TVS3300 ESD Suppressor and the THVD8010 and THVD8000 Transceiver.
