Expanding touchscreen design for a wide range of applications

Zytronic expands its footprint in North America with touchscreen design and integration specialist AGDisplays. The company provides a broad range of applications with a strong focus on industrial, defence, medical, and marine.

Over the last ten years, AGDisplays has grown its relationship with Zytronic from being a touch sensor supplier to a valued partner, where the companies focus their experience and services on providing the best service to the end customer. Together, they work directly with the customer throughout the development phases of a new product and can, therefore, deliver the detailed service and support required to bring a customer's vision to fruition.

Typically, AGDisplays uses the company's projected capacitive technology (PCT and MPCT) in situations where longevity and/or ruggedisation and performance are required. In industrial environments, conventional PCAP sensors will not stand up to longer-term usage due to severe ball drop or impact requirements. So much so that Mike Faryna, vice president, AGDisplays, said that in his 20 years of industry experience, he has not seen another PCAP sensor work as flawlessly when using thick coverglass.

"Working in tandem with Zytronic allows us to serve the customer with high-bright, open- or closed-frame designs, and touchscreen integration services so we can focus on offering the customer a turnkey solution that meets all of their needs," says Faryna. "With Zytronic's experience and expertise on the sensor portion, and our team's display experience, we can offer the customer a one-stop shop regarding their display assembly needs."

Another advantage of working with the company is that, as a display integrator, developers at AGDisplays respect the Zyconfig software, which enables the sensor and controller to be tested once it is combined with the LCD. The company use this software as a stage in its final inspection to ensure that every unit is functioning as it should before shipping to customers.

"Whether we are developing a rugged solution and looking for a PCAP that will function in harsh environments or looking to design a solution that will have superior longevity, we prefer to design with a Zytronic touch sensor," adds Faryna. "Our relationship has grown organically over the years by seeing the value in each other's quality and service along with our cohesive business approach."
