Monolithic Power Systems HF500A-30 EMI Optimised Flyback Regulator, available now from Mouser, is a fixed-frequency, current-mode regulator with built-in slope compensation. With EMI optimisation, the device incorporates a 700V MOSFET and a full-featured controller into one chip for a low-power, offline, flyback, switch-mode power supply.

The regulator functions at a fixed frequency with frequency jittering at medium and heavy loads. Jittering assists to reduce EMI energy on the switching frequency and its harmonics. Under light-load conditions, the regulator holds the peak current and lessens its switching frequency to 25kHz to provide excellent efficiency. The regulator enters burst mode at light loads to accomplish low standby power consumption.

Full protection features comprise brown-in and brownout, VCC UVLO, OLP, short-circuit protection, VCC OVP, input OVP, and OTP. The device provides over-power line compensation to ensure that the overload protection point is independent of the input voltage. It is available in a PDIP8-7B package.

Typical application areas include power supplies for home appliances, set-top boxes, standby and auxiliary power, and adapters.
