C&K has developed a miniature SMT tactile switch created for wearable and portable IoT devices. The PTS847 Series side-actuated tact switch consolidates a space-saving design with heightened durability to manage drop-impacts common to consumer devices.

At just 4.6mm x 2.2mm x 2.6mm, the series provides an edge mount configuration that raises a mere 0.95mm above the PCB for valuable PCB saving and customer system space-saving. Supporting 200K cycles, the low profile SMT switches are generally used in wearable and IoT devices, including sport watches, health monitoring devices, hearing aids, Bluetooth accessories and more.

Providing higher reliability than traditional miniature tact switches, the side actuation switch is offered with an optional rugged bracket. The bracket has an L-shape termination design that gives extra soldering strength in the operating direction. The SMT tactile switches give full integration into reflow soldering standard processes, lessening time and costs for OEMs.

To satisfy a wide mixture of application demands, the switch is offered in two standard actuation forces, including a 160gf version and a 350gf version.

"The compact side-actuated PTS847 Series increases reliability and eliminates integration challenges for designers of wearable and portable IoT devices," said Daisy Liu, global product manager at C&K. "We are proud to continue expanding the PTS switch family to enable customers to reduce the size of their end products without compromising performance and reliability."
