Vishay Intertechnology has launched a new extended temperature 'E' option for its TSSP77038 IR sensor module in the Heimdall package. Created to satisfy the special demands of outdoor applications, the Vishay Semiconductors TSSP77038ETR has been improved with a storage temperature range of -40C to +110C and an operating temperature range of -30C to +85C.

Standard packages for IR sensor modules provide limited storage and operating temperature ranges of -25C to +85C. With the robust design of its Heimdall package, the device can handle a broader temperature range, making the device perfect for operation in applications exposed to direct sunlight and large temperature variations, covering garage door light barrier systems, door locks, and sensors for package and trash bins.

The device produces long-range presence sensing up to 8m when used with the company's TSAL6200 IR emitting diode at a forward current of 50mA. The device is excellent for sensing the distance to objects for drones, robots, and toys, and it can also be employed as a reflective sensor for hand dryers, towel or soap dispensers, toilets, water faucets, vending machine fall detectors, and security and pet gates.

Intended to receive IR pulses from an emitter with a peak wavelength of 940nm, the sensor module performs at a supply voltage range from 2.5V to 5.5V, providing a low supply current of 0.7mA, and is sensitive to a carrier frequency of 38kHz. The device is insensitive to supply voltage ripple noise and provides shielding against EMI, whilst daylight blocking filter suppresses visible light. The sensor module is RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and Vishay Green.
