Mouser now stocks AS7038xB vital sign sensors and the AS7030B vital sign sensor module from ams. The small sensors are ideal for innovative applications in medical wearables and remote diagnostic equipment, including disposable patches utilised for blood oxygen saturation and ECG measurement.

The ams AS7038RB and AS7038GB sensors and AS7030B sensor module are based on photoplethysmography and ECG, two popular methods for heart rate monitoring and heart rate variability, which measure the pulse rate by sampling light modulated by blood vessels. The AS7038RB sensor is claimed to be the industry's thinnest dedicated sensor for SpO2 measurement, at only 3.7mm x 3.1mm x 0.65mm. The sensor's combination of small size, integrated functionality, and a high-performance signal chain allows designers to include vital monitoring capability to small consumer products, including earbuds, smartwatches and wristbands, and medical devices such as patches and oximeters. The sensor's unique on-wafer interference filter technology developed by ams allows it to capture optical signals in the 590nm-710nm and near-infrared (800nm-1050nm) wavelength bands for SpO2 measurement while blocking interference from ambient light at other wavelengths.

The AS7038GB version features peak sensitivity at the 525nm (green) wavelength for use in heart rate and heart rate variability measurement, while the AS7030B HRM/HRV sensor module combines two 535nm LEDs in a single 3.55mm x 6.2mm x 1mm package.
