Triple failure protection with thermal fuse for automotive and industry applications

The RTS (Reflow Thermal Switch) with shunt from Schurter stops thermal runaway, offering an additional element in the safety chain. At only 6.6mm x 8.8mm, the device consolidates three functions on the SMD component: overtemperature and overcurrent protection and current measurement. This facilitates a cost-effective increase in safety, particularly in automotive and industrial applications. The thermal fuse is available at Rutronik UK.

Operating currents of 130A and nominal DC voltages of 60V can be processed with no problem for the RTS. The standard version provides a measuring sensor resistance of 500╬╝Ohm and a trigger temperature of 210C.

The RTS with shunt is ideal for 12V and 48V applications in automotive power electronics. These comprise cooling fan applications, PTC heaters, HVAC, ABS, power steering, glow plugs, and diesel radiators. In the industrial environment, it is especially suitable for areas that include battery protection, power supply units, H-bridge circuits, lighting for ballasts, and motor drives.

The standard versions can be employed for an individual solution with adapted parameters, e.g. the level of the resistance or the tripping temperature, also satisfy customer-specific demands.
