TDK Corporation has added a 48V, 83.3A 4kW output power supply to TDK-Lambda’s TPS series. The TPS4000-48 works from an industrial three-phase input. It can automatically run from 400, 440, or 480VAC nominal delta or WYE inputs, with no wiring changes or the necessity for large, expensive step-down transformers. This industrial grade power supply is excellent for usage in an extensive number of applications such as test and measurement equipment, additive manufacturing, semiconductor fabrication, printers, laser cutting and RF power amplifiers.

The series offers, as standard, output voltage and current programming, AC fail, DC good and dropped phase warning signals, configurable remote on/off, 12V 0.3A standby voltage and a PMBus interface. Using this interface permits the remote monitoring of the output voltage and current, internal temperature, status signals and fan speed. The PMBus can program the output voltage, over current limit and the remote on/off. The output voltage is adjustable from 38.4-58V and the current limit point by 70-105% utilising front panel potentiometers or an analogue 0-5VDC voltage. To enable the easy parallel operation of up to eight units, for redundant or higher power needs, an internal ORing FET is included.

Excluding the output busbars, the unit is 107mm x 84.4mm x 335mm in size, making it ideal for 2U high racking systems. The device has a low weight of just 4kg and a typical efficiency of 92%. The device can start up at -40C, function at full load in ambient temperatures of -10C to +50C, and deliver 55% load at 70C. The variable speed, temperature-controlled cooling fan lowers acoustic noise and the ingress of contaminants. The power supply has 3kVAC input to output, 2kVAC input to ground and 500VDC output to ground isolation.

The three-year warranty TPS is safety certified to IEC/EN/UL 62368-1 and is CE marked to the Low Voltage, EMC and RoHS Directives. The TPS4000 also complies with EN55032-A EMI, SEMI F47-0706, IEC 61000-3-2, IEC 61000-4 and is designed to fulfil the MIL-STD-461F/G CS101, CS114 (Army Ground), CS115, CS116 immunity standard.
