Nexperia has released its new PCMFxHDMI2BA-C, a combined, highly efficient, common mode filter and ESD protection device with wide 10GHz differential bandwidth. The device is ideal for the latest HDMI 2.1 standard up to 12G FRL, where eye-diagram tests were passed even with 'worst cable model'.

Stefan Seider, Nexperia’s product manager for high-speed protection and filtering) commented: “HDMI 2.1 enables displays with higher resolution and better colours. However, this demands greater protection against interference, especially in compact wireless applications. The performance and miniature size of these two in one combination-devices make them highly suitable for ‘tv stick’-type plug-in designs.”

This highly integrated device delivers excellent common-mode attenuation at HDMI fundamentals: -19.4dB @ 3GHz and -16dB @ 6GHz. ESD performance is also good with devices providing a clamping voltage of 7.4V at 16A transmission line pulse (5V at 8A). TDR impedance dip is <10Ohms for 200ps rise time. The inductance of the coil-pair offers a further significant reduction of ESD peak voltages while having a low inductance for differential signals. Lastly, the parts can protect and filter one, two or three differential line pairs, while footprint-compatible ESD protection devices without a filter are available as well.

As well as to HDMI 2.1, the combined common mode filter and ESD protection devices suit other high speed serial interfaces including HDMI 2.0, HDMI 1.4, MIPI, DisplayPort. The device provides wafer-level chip scale packaging which removes package parasitics with their impact on performance, and is also very robust, capable of surviving 1500 drop tests.
