USB Type-C charging controller minimises design time and cost

ON Semiconductor FAN63901JMPX USB Type-C Charging Controller, available now from RS Components, is a highly integrated secondary-side power adaptor controller that supports USB Type-C and USB Power Delivery 2.0/3.0. This controller is supplied with a fully autonomous USB PD state machine that is fully compliant with the latest USB PD 3.0 specification and minimises design time and cost.

The controller supports the latest PPS rules that enable control of voltages from 3.3V to 21V and current from 1A to 3A. This controller includes internal synchronous rectifier control and an NMOS gate driver for VBUS load switch control. The controller also incorporates CV and CC control blocks with adjustable internal references. This controller provides output under-voltage protection, over-voltage protection, internal over-temperature protection, external over-temperature protection via NTC, CC over-voltage protection, and cable fault protection.

Typical applications comprise battery chargers for smartphones, feature phones, tablet PCs, and AC/DC adapters for portable devices that need CV/CC control.
