Synchronous step-down controller improves efficiency

Analog Devices LTC7803 Synchronous Step-Down Controller is a high performance, 100% Duty Cycle Capable, synchronous step-down DC-DC switching regulator controller driving an all N-channel power MOSFET stage. Synchronous rectification improves efficiency, decreases power losses, and reduces thermal demands. A constant frequency current mode architecture enables a phase-lockable switching frequency of up to 3MHz. The device operates from an extensive 4.5V to 40V input supply range.

The extremely low no-load quiescent current increases operating runtime in battery-powered systems. OPTI-LOOP compensation enables the transient response to be optimised across a wide range of output capacitance and ESR values. The MODE pin selects amongst Burst Mode operation, pulse-skipping mode, or continuous inductor current mode at light loads. The device further features spread-spectrum operation, which noticeably decreases the peak radiated and conducted noise on input and output supplies, making it easier to comply with EMI standards.

Typical applications include automotive and transportation, industrial, defence/avionics, and telecommunications.
