Snap-in power aluminium capacitors enable higher power density

Vishay Intertechnology has introduced a new series of miniature snap-in power aluminium electrolytic capacitors that allows higher power density designs. The Vishay BCcomponents 257 PRM-SI series provides up to 20% higher ripple current than past solutions in case sizes that are up to 20% smaller while giving longer useful life to 5,000 hours at 85C.

With ripple currents up to 5.05A, the devices enable designers to employ fewer components to save board space and lower costs. Offering a cylindrical aluminium case, insulated with a blue sleeve, the capacitors provide rated voltages to 500V in 25 compact case sizes ranging from 22mm x 25mm to 35mm x 60mm. The RoHS-compliant devices are also offered with three-pin keyed polarity snap-in terminals.

As polarised aluminium electrolytic capacitors with a non-solid electrolyte, the devices are excellent for buffering, smoothing, and DC-Link filtering in switch-mode power supplies employed in medical, consumer welding, and test and measurement equipment, in addition to general industrial control and audio/video system applications.
