Power multiplexers ideal for various systems using multiple power sources

Texas Instruments TPS212x Power Multiplexers are intended for a diversity of systems employing multiple power sources. The multiplexers offer automatic detect, select and seamless transition between available inputs. The devices automatically give priority to the highest input voltage or can be manually allocated to a lower voltage input. The lower voltage input supports both ORing and Source Selection operations. The devices provide a priority voltage supervisor to choose an input source. Further, the devices use an Ideal Diode operation to seamlessly transition between input sources.

During switchover, the voltage drop is controlled to block reverse current before it happens and gives uninterrupted power to the load with the minimum hold-up capacitance. The device enables current limiting during startup and switchover to shield against overcurrent events; this also shields the device during normal operation. The TPS2120 provides a low RON resistance of 62mOhm (Typical), and the TPS2121 has 56mOhm (Typical). The MUXs are characterised for operation for a temperature range of –40C to 125C.

The device is suited to the following applications: backup and standby power, input source selection, multiple battery management, EPOS and barcode scanners, building automation and surveillance, and tracking and telematics.
