Tunable integrated capacitors designed for use in mobile phone applications

STMicroelectronics Parascan Tunable Integrated Capacitors (PTIC), available now from Mouser, provides low-power consumption and high linearity for adaptive RF tuning applications. The fundamental building block of PTIC is a tunable material called Parascan. This is a variant of barium strontium titanate (BST) produced by Paratek Microwave. BST capacitors are tunable capacitors designed for use in mobile phone applications and dedicated to RF tunable applications. These capacitors are controlled through an extended bias voltage ranging from 1V to 24V. The implementation in mobile phones provides for an improvement in terms of radiated performance. This makes the performance almost insensitive to the external environment. Typical applications include use in cellular antenna open loop tunable matching network in multi-band GSM/WCDMA/LTE mobile phone, and Open loop tunable RF filters.
